How to send SPAM emails to special folder (889 views) (1102 thread views)
Message: Roadfly email uses advanced email spam filters. 90% of the spam emails will still end up in your account as opposed to being flattly rejected by our mail servers. The 90% that end up in your mailbox are marked SPAM (20.3) (the numerical value will vary). The reason we don't flattly reject all SPAM is that computers are smart but they're not as smart as we are. The filters make mistakes. For this reason it's best to glance in your spam folder before you empty it to make sure there's nothing in there that's important.

Here's how to have the email system automatically deposit all incoming SPAM mail into a special folder so that it doesn't junk up your INBOX. It's just a few easy steps.

1. First you need to make a special mailbox folder. To do this, login to your email via the webmail interface, and click on the "Folders [Add]" link near the top left. Name the mailbox "SPAM-JUNK" then click the "Create" button. Now you will see the new "SPAM-JUNK" folder in your list of folders.

2. Second you need to make a "Filter." The end result will direct the mail server to deposit any SPAM or Junk email into this new folder. Click the "Filters" button near the top left of your webmail. Now you'll see the center screen has a box w/ "Rule Name: _____________."
Enter the name "SPAM" and click the "Create" button.

3. The filter was named above but still isn't doing anything. We now need to tell it exactly what to do. You should now see your new "SPAM" Rule Name with a "Edit Rule" link towards the right. Click "Edit Rule." Now from the dropdown menu button choose "Subject." Leave Operation as "is." In the empty box "Parameter" put "*SPAM*" Use the star symbol but not the quotes. The next line down needs you to select "Store in" as the action. In the parameters box to the right put "SPAM-JUNK" exactly as you defined the email folder which will hold your spam and junk mail. If you named it "Junk Mail" for example then the parameter to the right of Action should be "Junk Mail." Finally click the "Update" button near the top of the main center section of the webmail interface. The "Update" button effectively saves the Filter/Rule.

That's it. From now on all your incoming email marked by the system as SPAM will be stored in your special email folder. You will need to go through it from time to time and make sure there's nothing important in there. You'll also need to empty it from time to time so it doesn't take up too much space.

Keep in mind that these same techniques can be used to store special incoming emails from your friends, family, classifeids, etc. automatically in there own folder. Filters and rules are very handy to pre-sort your incoming emails.

Note added 7/26/06

When you make the rule. After you select "store in" ... Junk/Spam folder. Then you must make another selection immediately below it to "Discard." If you don't do that the Junk email will be copied to your junk mail folder but a copy will remain in your inbox.
