| Message: | | This past fall I got into a car wreck with my 1979-1980 (very early) 924 turbo, a woman in a great big SUV pulled out in front of me. Needless to say the front is pretty well bent and the insurance company totaled the car but also let me keep it. The engine in the wrecked car was running very strong at the time of the accident and I believe that it probably still is able to run well. I am purchasing a 1982 924 turbo with tired paint and seats. It is a six speed where the other one was a five. The engine in the '82 is not running at the moment and has been sitting in the yard of very good Porsche shop for the past few months. The mechanic their said that the car was drivin their, but was running poorly when it came in. He said that the car came in, because it had a fuel leak and that he fixed that but after he did the car started running really poorly and eventually stopped running all togethor. He said that he spent about 7 hours trying to get it running and was unable to. He told me the car acts as if the timing is very advanced, and he seems to think that it has something to do with the ignition. He said he even swamped out all the ignition components with a running 931 and it still would not work. I am wondering if anyone has run into this timing problem with their vehicle? I was also thinking it might just be easier to swap the engine out of the 80 into the 82? Is that even possible? I may end up swaping the body parts and suspension parts out of the complete car into crashed one. But, I think that might not be possible as the '80 has a four stud bolt pattern and the '82 has a five. I guess what I am trying to do is take to broken Porsches and make one running one and would appreciate any advice anyone could give me.
Thank you very much,
Charles
