Message: Porsche didn't leave a lot on the table, but the real reason the 924S wasn't as fast as a 944 is the trans gearing. The engines were not "detuned". Porsche used a different gear ratio to keep their "entry level" car a bit slower than the higher priced 944. Try a gearbox from a later 944. It'll give you a slight improvement.
