| Message: | hi guys I'm new to this forum and am looking at buying my first Porsche [though there are some in my family]. I'm keen on a '86 944S that I drove yesterday, apparently has 72,000miles on it, drives well. Owner is honest about car's faults, and has some quotes for repairs, but I'd like some opinions on; - the drivetrain rubber damper is worn out - I know it's a big job, and it's sensible to do the clutch while in there. I am an average shadetree type of guy... with a hoist and a mechanic mate do you think we'd handle that job? Are there upgrades to this part and the clutch that we should should use? any advice? - the gauges are a bit screwey - temp gauge sits at 1/4 even though radiator fans come on and thermostat works fine. Also, fuel gauge only works until it gets to 1/2, then it stays there, although low level light works. Owner replaced sender unit with no improvement. Is it likely to mean the gauge cluster is faulty? a known problem? I did notice that when cranking to start, the tach goes up to 4-5000rpm until it fires - is that normal? - lastly - ABS light is on [which means it will fail its NZ "roadworthiness test"]. Apparently the car went to have something with the handbrake fixed, and it came back with the light on. Is it likely to just be a misaligned ABS sensor? Thanks in advance.... if I get the car I look forward to chatting with you all more. cheers, Phil ------------------ Phil, Hamilton, NZ ------------------ | ||||
