Message: Okay first off, the 82 does not have a clutch interrupt switch, not depressing the clutch will not cause the car not to start.
You may want to check the oil, sounds like you might have too much in there. Google/search the proper way to check the oil, it isn't a simple pull the stick and look type of thing.
