Re: Victory Motorcars: Warning! (8302 views)
Message: I must say my experience was quite different with Victory Motorcars. I paid $18,500 and got this:

1988 Carrerra Targa

High miles with a decent respray done a while ago but the car was exactly as represented. I called Robert when I started looking/researching and told him I wanted to spend $15K. He suggested an SC or a higher mileage Carrerra. I told him at that point I was not sure what I was looking for quite yet but I would call him back when I had a better idea.

I contacted him a month later and told him I had decided on a 1987-1989 Carrerra Targa. He mentioned several cars in inventory in the low to mid 20s and I told him I wanted to spend $20K (revised as result of him setting an expectation which I confirmed as a fact in the market). He then offered me this car which had not reached him yet after his buying. He also offered to deliver it into my driveway (which NO other dealer had thought to do despite my communicating reservations about driving a car back to Florida) for $500.

Robert called me when the car came in and said that he wanted a chance to go over the car before PPI (good idea!). He claims to have fixed a window switch, seat switch and replaced a bunch of bulbs. The detailing was excellent.

I then located a company (didn't ask him) to do the PPI. The PPI was $240 and included a 4 gas analysis, compression/leakdown, test drive, chassis dyno, etc. PPI was performed by ProTechnik and seller delivered and picked up car via flatbed. My first call to the PPI provider, I asked if they did any work for Victory Motors and they said they did the occasional PPI and that they thought the guy was a bit pricey but generally had a wide selection and decent cars.

PPI revealed no issues and the provider spent a bunch of time with me on the phone answering my questions.

I called and committed to buy at asking ( I NEVER PAY ASKING BUT HIS PRICE WAS FAIR) plus delivery fee. Robert at Victory said I would have the car the next day (it ended up being a day later, but not in the seller's control) although he initially said five days to deliver.

I met the truck at my house with a digital camera to document any damage before he could unload it. There was no damage so no worries. The car interior (not shown very well in pictures) was almost brand new looking in person.

I drove it a bit this weekend and changed the trans lube (cost $7)to cure a bit of shifting effort above what should be required. The first time I started the car to back it off the truck, the battery sounded slightly weak and the dash light dim a bit when other electric assessories are turned on. I will probably need a battery in the coming months.

FINAL ANALYSIS?
Robert at Victory sold me a car at below my stated budget for less than his normal asking range on such a car. He never attempted to raise the price nor pretend someone else had interest or other BS. Like any high dollar purchase, I proceeded cautiously, relying on 3rd party objective information only. I have the car I was looking for at a price that I could easily get my money back out of it down the road. I enjoyed my experience of doing business with Robert Neel at Victory Motors. He may have his detractors, but I was treated quite fairly and I have no reservations in telling friends and family about his business. He had a few opportunities to behave badly and he didn't once with me. I was prepared to wait until he located a car in my price range and he nailed it out of the gate.

I would dare say that the Seller and that particular PPI provider are a low risk combination if you are looking for a car.
