Victory Motorcars: Warning! (11697 views) (95335 thread views)
Message: Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone considering buying a Porsche from Victory Motorcars in Houston, TX. ASK EVERY QUESTION POSSIBLE BEFORE YOU BUY OR HAVE IT THOROUGHLY EVALUATED BY PORSCHE TECHNICIAN!

I bought a 1982 911SC from them back in late February. I found it on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10156&item=4529020415&rd=1) and then negotiated over the phone (pics won't show on that link b/c it is dated).

Pros: The car is pretty much mint inside and out as described. Robert Neal was very easy to work with - purchasing and shipping was smooth and fast. The car came with TONS of paperwork and the owner manuals (a huge plus).

Cons: The O2 sensor was non-existent b/c of the after market headers and exhaust (not original Porshe parts). Also no heat exchangers - so no heat for cold winters. The fuel mixture was set very rich in order to mask problem with oil temp switch (ultimately the root of my backfiring problem on cold starts). After fuel mixture was set properly I got a lot of backfiring on cold starts. Installed new O2 sensor - car did not like it and still backfired. Replaced oil temp switch and runs perfectly now but still can't use O2 sensor. The speedo reads 5 mph too high (not a big deal). The windsheild was beat up and the seal was bad - found out after driving in rain when water came pouring through my dash. The 'upgraded' front stereo speakers didn't work - rear speakers also blown. The throttle housing was missing bushings which only give me 70% of full throttle. Had a bad vacuum hose to warm up regulator.

I think that about sums it up. Since late February, I have spent $2600 getting the car into tip top running condition (that figure includes a chain tensioner upgrade too).

In my opinion, I didn't get a fair shake. I guess that I expect full disclosure and honesty when spending a substantial amount of money on a 'superb' vehicle as described by Victory Motorcars.
