I'm new to this area. I mostly focus on the E24 BMW board. I've had a 98 C2S Ocean/gray coupe as my daily driver for 5 years. I've put 40K on it (mileage now 65K) and expect it's good for lots more. Virtually trouble free. I bought winter wheels and Arctic Alpin tires when I bought the car. Traction isn't a problem although the front is light in snow; I drive accordingly. I avoided 4S mostly due to expected weight/complexity/mileage penalty.
Huge FTD factor as my daily commute is twisty and hilly back roads. There is a known valve issue, often between 70-90K miles, that costs $4-5K to fix. Buy the best you can find and get maintenance records if you can.
