| Message: | Takign it bit by bit: "ou need to be honest, the gun lobby campaigns for an ultimate goal of NO background checks at all" We managed to get by for almost 200 years with no background checks; since they were implemented, gun violence has increased. "Why in the world would you want to give access to weapons to people on a terrorist list? You are fine with not letting them fly but they can buy as much firepower as they can afford?" Until I have evidence that the terror list means something, then I'm opposed to it. I'm opposed to gun bans for them, I'm opposed to keeping them off airplanes. I'm in favor of hunting down and prosecuting real terrorists, not in favor of [Oops!] feel-good-do-nothing security measures just to keep people happy. "And yes, there should be recourse." IF you're going to have a list, this is a must. I still believe that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process. "You can argue the cooling off period, it seems like a reasonable compromise to me." Fair enough. I still would rather enable the endangered mother to be able to buy a gun. "Hardened criminals will find some dooshbag who will sell them weapons regardless, but well thought out gun laws may prevent many murders of opportunity, psycho massacres. etc." No, gun laws will prevent GUN murders. Not stabbings, or strangulation, or poisoning, or beating to death. I personally know someone who's wife was brutally murdered - there was no gun involved. "In the end though nothing will work as long as there is this attitude promoted that a gun is more than a tool but a symbol. " Agree 100%. There are not waiting periods or background checks for knives, or chainsaws, or rat poison, or ropes. A gun is a tool, except when the anti-gun lobby wants to make special rules for those tools compared to other tools. Despite all of the rules and laws, gun crime is worse than it was way back when you could still buy guns mail-order. They are a failure. ![]() | ||||
