| Message: | | I have a 2003 automatic Mini Cooper. We have loved the car, and yet, I am sad to report that after only 48k miles, our transmission has gone kaput. While the car is technically out of warranty, I don't believe that any quality car company can be comfortable with a car as expensive as a mini, dying after 48,000 miles. Mini offered to pay for half the transmission part but the repair even with that offer will cost me over $5000. For a car that was cared for and driven conservatively by my wife over the past several years, I find this outcome to be less than adequate, and I warn other potential mini owners not to buy used minis with that production year. I wish that a quality company like BMW would just step up to the plate and accept that stories like this, that are not dealt with appropriately, are seriously damaging to its brand image.
