| Message: | | I bought my Mini Cooper on February 2004. Great car but recently, specially past month or so my car needed to be towed back to the dealer for various reasons. On January 2, 2006 I was driving to work under heavy rain. I got into 134 freeway driving west when I noticed there is a heavy traffic ahead. The traffic was due to a three-inch rainwater. I slowly merged into the freeway going towards the far left lane, where the water was the lowest.
I was driving about 3 to 4 miles per hour when I go to into the water, and after going about 4 feet my Mini Cooper made a loud sound and stopped. I had my car towed to Mini Universal, where I was told that they cannot help me, and that I have to pay 12,000 dollars for a new engine. They were actually sarcastic and made a comment like “we have another one” when I told them my situation. After 2 hours I had my car towed back to my house. I also called the Mini Cooper customer help line, and one of the managers told me that it was my fault that it happened and I should not drive my car when it’s raining hard. One of the service technicians down at Universal Mini, told me that last year alone they had fixed 5 Mini Coopers due to same problem, maybe this is a recall issue.
