Message: Not necessarily. My son had a flat (non-runflat tire) on his Jetta a few weeks ago. He pulled off the road as soon as he noticed that the car was driving funny and called me because he couldn't get the lugnuts loose.

When I pulled the wheel off the car, the inside sidewall had split a good 8 inches. A tire repair kit and pump aren't going to help you with that sort of problem.

When I replace my runflats, I'll have a mini-spare with me. I'll just sacrifice the storage space for peace of mind.
