83 380SL is really a 280SL? (999 views) (4114 thread views) 
Message: New member needing some info. Car is badged 380SL. BAR label says 3.8. But it has a DOHC 6cyl with Bosch K-JET CIS injection. Bumpers are thin Euro style and paperwork shows first 2 oil changes in Germany. Must have had an engine conversion at some time. Can't find the correct air filter cartridge. Has cylindrical shape about 6 inches round. Can anybody assist? Other filters etc seem to fit 1980 280 series cars.
If I could find the Engine number could you tell me what year etc it really is? And where do I find the number?
Would a CarFax help?
