Shaking - '85 Wagon Turbodiesel (32 views)
Message: well here we go - new owner, new to 300Turbodiesel tips....

on the back of the injection pump your find a bolt/screw with a lock nut. That is a idle adjusment, more accurately, a idle 'smoother' adjustment screw which touches the fuel delivery rack inside the pump.
Normal for these cars , when hot to have that rough idle. So adjusting that screw till smooth is the repair. Now here is where
requires experience. You also want to adjust the base idle speed with the long idle stop screw sticking upwords on the back side of the injection pump. That tall adjusting stop screw also has a locking nut at it's base. Tricky to get to without proper tools.
Do no adjust the idle too high or the pump can 'run away!"
causiing uncontrolable idle racing. It's a balance of adjusting the base ide using the TALL idle stop screw first to approx 800 rpm - THEN you go to the rear of the injection pump and adjust the stabalizer screw till the motor is not rocking - smoothest.
The above adjustments are carried out only after a drive and the motor is at full operating temp

please run only DIESEL fuel in it for the next 500 miles
fill it up so you get as much fresh DIESEL in it and do not run or tune the isle on the veggi krap for the time being

Valve adjustments are most important and should be adjusted COLD FIRST
before the above idle adjustments - YOU AWAYS ASSUME THE PO DIDN'T know his arse from his elbow - getting it back to M-B factory
adustments is key!

have fun with it and post a photo of it
