| Message: | Can anyone help? I have a 1989 300CE. I purchased in May and got a lot of work done at the dealership. It is a beautiful car! This included a full electronic diagnosis, among many other items, that added up to nearly $10,000. Beginning in about mid-August, the car turns off intermittently. It happens while I am usually coasting at a very low speed. I do not think it is related to the engine, but it's hard to say. Just in case, I put in techroline and premium gas for the last two tanks. Also, I did run out of gas once in late August - it was dry and when we got gas back in, it took several minutes for the car to start. Could this be related? I have gone through at least 4 tanks of gas since the gas runout... What happens is - it just turns off, while traveling at a low speed, say less than 10 MPH. Then the display lights come on (indicating when car is off). This happened about once every few weeks. It has always turned over fine (like the engine is trying to start, but it doesn't 'fire up and start'. Typically when this has happened, the car would not start for about two minutes. When it finally does start, it runs just fine, until the next time it happens a few weeks later. It has probably happened about 8 times since August. But it happened twice today. The first time, I was in a parking lot pulling into a parking space (perfect timing.) When I returned to the car several hours later, it started right up. Then I drove a couple miles to the post office. It was fine. Then I left the post office, and it turned off when coasting to a red light in heavy traffic. It would not start for several minutes. I sat there trying to start it over and over. Then it seemed as if the battery was dying down. After several tries, the beep sound went on while I was turning it over (like the sound you would get if the key were in the ignition and the dorr was opened), and the windshield wiper went on (slowly) even though the windshield wiper was not turned on....(!) It sounded like it was dying (the beep got weaker, and the windshield wiper was moving VERY slowly). So I sat there for a couple more miuntes, and it eventually started and I drove home fine (about five miles.) Apparently the car has a new battery, it looks clean and new. Could this be the problem? ...help (!) Can anyone please suggest an idea of what may be wrong. I thought it very strange that the wiper went on for no apparent reason. Please Help!
