| Message: | | There were problems a couple of years ago reproted on almost all the Mercedes forums. There was fuel being sold by certain companies that caused failure of fuel tank sending units and fuel pumps. I didn't hear too much about the fuel pumps but the sending units were going bad all over. I had the problem you are having on my '98 CLK.
Have the dealer check everything that touches fuel, from the sending unit in the tank (not your problem, but it could be going bad soon, too) all along the fuel line. It sounds like your fuel pump or filter is the cause. Have you used Shell gasoline quite a bit in the past? That was the culprit in my case. Shell stopped using the offending additive, but for your vintage car, that fuel was being sold.
