Update on Qporte intake, cooling repair Sept 2009 (64 views)
Message: It's at least going to roll on it's own power. Took all of 18 hrs to get the intakes put back on and replace as much of the rubber fuel, vacuum and various hard as a rock hoses under that intake contraption. I made a mistake of using the maserati manual as a guide, and after getting all the carbs on, the linkages bound up. There are 4 4mm spacers that go under the big carb housing and one hell of a lot of 11mm (16 of them) nuts and washers that have to be installed like you are doing everything through a tube. Once I got into the swing of installing everything via a long thin screwdriver, and one at a time, while only being able to tighten up a 1/6 of a turn, and flipping over the wrench, you know the drill. The Maserati manual shows the 4mm spacers under the carbs, so a couple of wasted hours undoing and going by my pics snapped last year, replacing the thermostat, all the cooling hoses, draining the remainder of the fuel tank, filling with fresh fuel, and she fired right up. sounds like crap until it warms up but boy-oh-boy, the intake sound of the 4 webers was worth the work. Has a choke cable!
No wonder the rubber is hard.. the exhause manifolds glow red... have not see that since my old 1977 733, and the old 911's (75-77) that had thermal reactors.
Looked like one of the floats stuck, but whacked it with the plastic end of a screwdriver and seems OK (quit leaking for now). 5 years without being used, I flushed all the fuel system, but I bet I rebuild the carbs before it is all over.
No tach, but the speedo moves up with engine rpm, bad alternator, but the guages are all whacked out.. who knows.. Will drive it tomorrow, and then tinker as time allows..needs spark plug wires and will be interesting once I look under that old distributor cap.
