Another possibility is the receiver in the ignition switch. Your key has a security chip and if the ignition switch fails to read the signal from the key, the starter circuit will not engage.
Suddenly, my 97xk8 would not start,i.e. when the igniton key was turned to engage the starter motor, nothing would happen-no noise, nothing. Then the windows did their funny number by not going up all of the way and lowering everytime I pull on the door lever from the outside.I recycled the alarm and after a few minutes, the starter motor engaged and now the car starts fine but the traction control failure error message briefly appears when the car is started. I have reset the window limiter twice as the windows have now done their funny number again.
Please help me with a clue. Do I have a traction control failure or is it something else?
