Rebuilt Engine Reliability (archive)

The timing chain just broke on my 98 with 50k miles and the dealer says the engine needs to be replaced with a rebuilt engine (under extended warranty). Did anyone have this experience and how is the rebuilt engine holding up? Any comments on reliablity? Am I getting a lesser engine?
