Why is that? A supercharged motor is the best compromise between weight (something the Jag doesn't need any more of) and smooth power delivery (part of the whole idea of Grand Touring).

N/A motors with a high specific output tend to be peaky (i.e. Acura NSX). N/A motors with a smooth power curve are proportionally bigger (heavier) to make the same peak power as the high specific output motors. As long as the internals are designed to take the boost, I would prefer the handling characteristics of a lighter car to a heavier one any day of the week.
