I'd say paranoia would be selling your XK8 because you are confident the problem will happen to you. I relate it to the way some people live in their own home-made prisons because they are just sure that crime will come busting through their front door any moment so they end up living their lives in fear, looking over their shoulders every waking moment. If you allow this engine concern to control you, you'll never be able to enjoy the car.

Joe,
Thanks for the information and it sounds like you confirm the nikosil is an issue, so how can it be paranoia? Paranoia would be an unwarranted concern based on speculation and obviously this is a fact.

What were the signs that the engine displayed that warranted the replacement? Is low compression and an engine burning oil a sign of this and do you remember how many miles the engines that had to be replaced had on them?

I realize that not all engines are going to have a problem with this but it does sound like something that owners should atleast be aware of. No one wants to have to replace an engine but if that does end up to be the case then I think most owners would feel it is Jaguars responsibility.

Jason
