I had suspected that it's a problem that treally exists, but not one that is seen very often.
Then again, I push my car real hard, so it's at least something I probably need to keep an eye on.

There is a problem with the nikosil cylinder treatment. There we're problems with BMWs and Lexus' as well. The piston side loads eventually wear the coating from the bore causing blow-by. It's most common in the XK8s because they are usually pushed harder than the XJs. I've seen only a couple of engines replaced since its release.
