The Nikosil topic has been discussed at length on a different jaguar forum. Engines have *supposedly* been replaced under warranty for it. The story is that the higher sulpher content in fuel in the USA erodes the nikosil creating oil blow-by. I intend to ask my dealer's service department about it when I take my car in for service in the next few weeks.

My understanding is that Jaguar has started using cylinder lines as of model year 2000 instead of nikosil because of these very issues.

Additionally, there are problems with timing chain tensioners, including a TSB addressing the problem. Should a tensioner fail, the engine can be damaged severely resulting in new heads or a new engine assembly.

related to Nikosil on this site. Since the issues were well know prior to the XK8 engine design and development, I would assume the issues were successfully addrressed.
