I wanted to upgrade the system but remain a stock as possible. I didn't want to cut the harness so I tapped off of the radio's PC board for the 4 ch outputs. I had to end up cutting the wires coming from the radio to the front speakers in the doors since the XK8 uses a connector in the door jam, unlike most cars that just use a flex tube to pass the wires from the body to the doors and tied thoses wires to the amp. I used a Xplod 4-ch amp with a EQ built in, and mounted it in the left side of the trunks recessed area. I cut the flat area of metal brackets in the rear speakers and replaced that with 1/2 plywood. Cut the wood to fit 2 Kenwood 8" free air subs and mounted 2 4" two way infinity speakers above them. I also had to widen the back of the panels in the rear to open them up to the size of the factory speaker grills. I replaced the door speakers with a set of infinity 5.25 with the tweeders in triangle covers. The only easy thing about this install was that the 12 volts was already in the trunk. The install took me about 2o hrs. A lot of time was spent in fitting the subs in the back panel. The car is so soild that it really doesn't eminate sound outside of it. The amp is only 60 watt per channel, but being inside the car that is really loud. I hindsight it may have been possible to put 6" speakers in the doors. Now with the top down there is more than enough volume.
