The dealer tried to solve it but misbalanced one wheel and declared that one of the tires was out of round and was the problem. I took it to Les Schwab and they balanced first the fronts (including the 'out of round' tire), and in a second visit, the rears. End of problem. They also found a screw in one of the rear tires and fixed that. Total cost - $0. Had a chat with the dealer's service manager and they refunded the hour of labor they had charged me.
Don't let this scare you away from the car - they are great.

Has anyone come up with a definitive answer to the wheel shimmy problem. This is the only issue with the XK8/XKR that bothers me. The dealer states it is a tire issue but I'm not so sure I believe them. I want to buy a XKR but don't want to be annoyed by the steering wheel bouncing around slightly at 70 MPH. What are everyone's experiences?
