My 2001 XK8 had it's 10,000 mile service and I am a bit puzzled as to why the oil change schedule is so long. Typically 3000 miles for most cars. A friend of mine who is a GM service mgr made some crack about jag not wanting those cars to last... For peace of mind I would like a more frequent oil change, maybe this is unreasonable? (I drive 7miles each way to work stop and start + fwy).

Hedley

I've had an XJ8L, S-TYPE 4.0 and XK8. I decided to change the oil every 5K (splitting the Jag recommendation in half). My dealer said he recommends that to all his customers anyway.
If you're using a synthetic (especially like Mobil 1). Once every 5K is more than enough.
Just a side note. To comment on why Jaguar would only recommend once every 10K miles for such as high performance engine, Porsche recommends their oil changes at 15K intervals and my dealer tells his customers to do it every 7500. I'm assuming this is because of better engine materials (rings, pistons etc.) as well as the assumption that you use synthetic oils rather than natural.

Just my 2 cents.....
