The 'convertible not latched' message was the first sign of trouble with mine. Once the message came on the top had to be operated manually. Eventually it reached the point that it would not operate.
The fluid used in the first few years of XK8 production thickens to the point that the top won't operate properly. After one dealer tried several temporary fixes, another dealer drained and flushed the fluid and replaced it with a new type and replaced the mechanism in the top of the windshield. I have had no problems since.

I recently had the ram in the pump for the top replaced after lowering the top I had noticed that a warning came on indicating that "convertible top not latched" also the top will not go up. Im sure something wasnt put back correctly but I am curious if anyone ever had encountered the same problem
