No way should you put 3 small kids in the back. The center consol goes all the way back so there is no leg room for a middle passenger.

Also, every small child should be in a car seat. My smallest fits in the back, in a smallish booster seat, but the front seat needs to be all the way forward to allow for dangeling legs.

I did choose the XK8 because I knew my young kids would fit (in an emergency)...but I only have 2 kids - not XK8s.

Let your wife test drive the car. She will fall in love with it and agree to let you ferry the little ones in a minivan (she will let you use the XK8 occasionally).

The car is not designed for 3 rear passengers. Even with a belt, I would bet my money that an accident would result in tragedy for the "third" rear passenger.

My suggestion would be to think about how much your wife is willing to spend on the Xk8. Find an Xk8 for less and use the difference to get an old BMW or MB. Besides, I know with my insurance company, having my Xk8 listed as the "fun" car really helps out.
