Speaker Question on Dash Board (archive)

I've got a 97 XK8 with the standard stereo, plus CD changer.

If I remove the pseudo-triangular speaker covers in the dash where speakers would be if I had the upgraded stereo, I notice that it seems to be pre-wired for the speakers.

Does anyone know if that wiring is hooked into the system for a base stereo? Specifically, if I go to my dealer and buy the speakers that go into the dash for the Harmon/K.. stereo and plug in the wires that are already there, is it likely to work or is it a waste of time?
