I think it is worth checking with your closest Jaguar dealer. My understanding (and it is based on information from the Jag-Lovers mailing list) is that Jaguar went to cast liners in 2000 or 2001 because of excessive cylinder wear. There is rumored to be a blow-by test the dealer can do before agreeing to replace bad engines for free (up to 100,000 miles). I use the term "rumored" only because I have not heard it directly from my dealer, although the information is coming from people I trust.

just like the early problems with Rotary engines Cadillac 8-6-4 engines, etc. The Nikasil coating is used today in the Jag 8 cylinder engine, Ferrari 550 Barchetta, Porsche 911 GT2, and other high-end engines. I haven't heard of unusual engine failure since the BMW catastrophy. The manufacturers wouldn't be taking another chance unless they were certain to have corrected the problems. Don't let this fear stop you from buying any one of these fine machines.
