Please add your year/model/mileage of XK8/R here if your's suffers from this problem as a post reply and lets see what Jag UK say about this rediculous situation - I mean this is supposed to be a quality car! I want a response from them, even if it is a denial of the problem.
Please also state whether yours was wheel bearings, suspension bushes, steering universal joint, something else(!)

How well known is this and are Jaguar aware of these problems? I am thinking of approaching Jag UK with details from this forum (minus usernames) and see what they say - someone else in this forum said they have issued a fix (for what? shoddy engineering?) which I doubt...

You have pegged a couple of the common problems plaguing various Xk owners around the world.
What I have found is, unless you keep the car in meticulous alignment, the shake will appear. Once it appears, it recursively causes itself to become worse and worse. It does this by virtue that bad wheel bearing ruin bushings, bad bushings ruin suspension arms, bad suspension arms ruin hubs... etc. etc.
The best thing to do for these car is to have the alignment checked and calibrated once a year. Do not align the car to any other spec than factory. "Performance" alignments (slight toe-in, aggressive, negative camber, etc.) will accelerate the degradation of the entire suspension system.
Since these problems are recursive, unless you remedy them early, you can permantly work the shake into your vehicle. If this happens, you are looking at a suspension rebuild.
FYI. Even chronic low tire pressure can cause the onset of these problems.
