Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Yes! Remove the plastic extension piece - it clips onto the base - you will have to feel for it. The base is held in with two 20mm bolts. Purchase replacement bolts 90mm long and two flat washers. Cut 2 pieces of wood closet bar 70mm long. Center drill them with a 1/4" bit - tough to get straight without a drill press. Remove the base and the closet bar pieces will fit almost perfectly into the holes in the carpet and pad. Bolt the base over the top of the closet bar pieces using the washers as well. Reattach the extension.
