Before finding the disconnected vacuum line, my testing determined that I could set the cruise control and the car would initially hold it's speed, but anything that required the car to accelerate caused the Engine Fault readout to appear. This included pressing the Set button, pressing and holding the Set button, or when the car just needed more gas to maintain it's preset speed. With the car idling and the Engine Fault light on, I lifted the hood and heard the tell-tale sucking sound. After reconnecting the vacuum line, shutting off the car then restarting it, the car works fine now. This vacuum line in question is a hard plastic line that comes out of the firewall on the passenger side - passenger being the right side of the car for a left-hand drive auto - and into the back of a vacuum connector near the TPS.

Hello group,
I've got a 97 XK8 convert. with 46,000 miles. Today while driving, the Engine Fault light came on. Now, here's the scenario: While using my Cruise Control I had stopped for a stop light. After accelerating to about 40 I pressed the "Resume" button, and while the car was accelerating I pressed the "Set" button because I hadn't intended to press Resume. Before I noticed whether or not the Cruise was working, I had to slow for anoght stop light. At this time I noticed that "Engine Fault" was now displaying on my dash along with the orange light. My engine runs fine, the temp, oil, battery all are fine. The Cruise Control no longer works, and the light on the cruise button on the shift console no longer lights. I tried shutting the car off and restarting it but the Engine Fault didn't go away. All indications are that the car is running fine, but my Cruise Control is now broken. Does anyone have any opinions or insight? I'll of course contact my Dealer Wednesday.
Thanks,
Jeff Cline
