I don't know about the 2000 XK8. I would put synthetic in it, particularly if you follow the manufacturer's recommendations on oil changes. Synthetic will ALWAYS provide better protection and lubrication. There would be no reason, other than cost, not to use synthetic.

The dealer is correct, either should be sufficient to keep your Xk8 running well for a long time. I remember reading a note from an XK8 owner in the Jag magazine concerned about the long periods between oil changes. Jag said their new engines have been designed and tested with the intervals, and to change to oil more frequently than specified would not increase engine life. I thought that this was a good, confident statement from a manufacturer.
