The X-type you described is somewhere around $40,000 assuming you are talking about the 3.0 liter one--possibly more than $40k. If you are looking at a '98 XK8 for $52,500 or more, you shouldn't get it--that is too much. I sold a '99 XK8 coupe with 36,000 miles several months ago for $40,000. That was on the low end (very low) of the scale at the time, but still--you can find better deals on XK8s than $50,000+ for an almost 4-year-old model.
