Was getting a noise from front end, just after dealership replaced all bushings (front/rear) as worn.Car has 40k miles. Jaguar dealership said it was the tires. So I put a brand new set of Kuhmo's on my 97 xk8 covertible. I still get same noise from front end somewhere. I think its the bearings or the suspension? Noise is loudest when driving in straight line, really loud between 10 and 60 m.p.h.. faster than this, noise gets kind of muffled. Also if I turn wheel slightly to right or left noise seems to go away, also if I go over a slight hill in road where front end seems to lift a little, noise goes away. Then as weight of front end comes down, noise re-appears. Hope its nothing to do with my steering column?. Can anyone offer suggestions, as dealership keeps saying tires. Its driving me crazy as it wasnt there, when I bought the vehicle,(with same brand tires Kuhmo) or until I had brakes, bushings and full service done.
Thanks for anyones help.
It could be the universal joint in the steering column, but this would normally be more apparent during cornering particularly at low speeds over a bumpy road surface.
It may also be the shocks. Early shock wear noise can be more apparent at low speeds on a poor road surface.
If it sounds like a low clunking noise it could be your shocks.
If you can feel it through the steering wheel then get the universal joint checked out.
Finally, it may be your drop links and/or hubs. These are also suspect on the XK's. Ask your garage, they may have replaced these when they put on the new bearings. If not, get them to check these out too.
