It was about $1000. I also have a 2001 BMW X5, and they want $1800 for theirs (I got mine at bargain basement $1200 for the old model last year when I got my X5). If you want integration with the steering and dash, you must buy manufacturer's phones and pay the price. They have custom programming in the phhone that enables them to integrate with the car displays and controls. Otherwise, you buy a phone and buy whatever you want to try to make it work as well as it would in any car. Why skimp on the phone? Pay the price and get something nice.
