I took delivery of a 2001 XKR Silverstone in October last year. I ran it on the Winter Wheels until April this year. When switching to the 20" silver Detroit wheels, I have had steering wheel vibration at speeds around 100-120 km/h, sometime lower. After having the wheels re-balanced several times, the garage came to the conclusion that the CATS ECU was malfunctioning and leaving the dampers on the hardest setting which caused the vibration. They claim that they temporarily swapped the ECU with one from another car and it solved the problem. I must say that I am a little sceptical however. They have ordered a new ECU, should take at least several weeks.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

I have had this on 2 XK8's. I took my first new one on 2/16/2001 (too many problems with it to go over here) and eventually returned it for a replacement. I got the new replacement on 6/8/2001.
Both cars had this problem, also on braking. This is not isolated to the XK. The S Type also has this problem. It is endemic of the discs which are prone to warping. There are also problems with the hubs and bearings. I have had replacement discs/hubs on order now virtually since I got my newest XK in June. I have been told by my dealer that Jag have finally admitted that there is a problem and I have to wait for these parts ('back order'). I am also told that Jag are either in the process of redesigning the parts or looking for a new manufaturer
The first xk8 had the 18" Impeller wheels and my latest has the 20" Detroit wheels.
I also have this problem at the same speeds you describe.
I would take this up with your dealer ASAP.
