It was a mess, but I finally have my Detroit 20" wheels and Brembo brakes on my XK8. It was a hassle as the person I ordered them from didn't have much experiance ordering from Jaguar, but in the end the $12k cost and months it took to sort out are well justified in my book.
On the appearance it lends a more aggressive look to the car, without taking away from its orginal sexy look. If you have seen a Silverstone, you've seen the setup but they are a different color. The R-Option kit has the spokes of the wheels in a chapaigne color and the brakes are a grey-green color instead of the silver on both for the Silverstone (personally I like my colors better since I have a Black car). I would advise not getting behind a car with these on it with either water or rocks on the road, the rear wheels really love to throw stuff behind it (you should see the roster tails :).
On the performance side. With the change in the wheels, there is a noticable differance in stiffness and feedback in the steering. It feels more responsive and more confidant. For braking, it stops quite a bit quicker and the pedal feel is very firm. The only downside is that it stops so quickly now that the nose dives and the rearend rises quite noticably. I will be getting suspension work done to correct this (and lower it a bit over the wheels).
All in all, if you have the money to do it I fully suggest it. Just make sure you are dealing with someone that is more familiar with ordering from Jaguar UK.
Once I get it cleaned up and a bunch of door dings and rock chips taken care of (probably a few months) i'll get pics of it up somewhere.
