I was looking at getting an XKR, but I would have to end up buying a separate winter car (I live in Detroit).

If I bought an XK8 though, I'm thinking I could possibly drive it during the winter as well as the summer.

What are your experiences, if any?

I can't speak to the XKR, but my '98 8 was great in the last few winters here in Virginia. With the traction control I had no trouble with ice and light snow. The only problem I had (which is rare here, but I imagine more comon up there) is that if snow accumulated up to 4 inchs or more it has a tendancy to plow the snow in front of it. At best this made the car come to a stop, it also threw me off the road (luckily into a nice soft 6 foot snow bank so nothing bad happened) the first time when I didn't expect it.
I would love to ditch my golf and drive my baby all the time, but i'm keeping it around for just that kind of thing.
