Quick question for everyone out there. Not to long ago I had a few threads running on the Modern list about upgrading my 8 and many of the responses I got back (and I saw a similar one here too for someone else) asked why I didn't sell my 8 and get an R due to the already improved bhp.
When the R's first were released here in the States I went down and test drove one and I was unimpressed with it against my 8. I really didn't notice any performance differance between the two. Since then I have thought that I anticipated it too much and built up too high of an expectation of what it could do. Recently, however, I was browsing through some old Jaguar Monthly mags (looking at articals on Arden, Paramount, and the R options) and found a side by side comparision of the two. What they reported was that there really wasn't much of a difference between the cars until you got to the 130 - 150 mph range, then the Rs acceleration bested the 8 by almost 6 seconds (up until then it didn't even have a full second between them).
Has anyone else driven both cars? What did you think?
