it's a little bit complicated... but it's an interesting story... so bear with me !
originally the XKR was going to be my wife's car replacing a 96 XJ6 at lease end.
So I ordered the car in november in British racing green for delivery in march when the lease on the XJ6 was going to end. The dealer had told me they neeeded about 3 month for specific colors; for some reason I wanted it in BRG.
After I signed the order, I did some research on the net to see what an XKR would look like in that color and I came across some pictures on a german site but wasn't impressed. The car look good but I got second toughts.
So within a couple of days of placing the order I called the dealer and told them that I changed my mine and wanted the car in Platinum Silver which would match my 72 E-type.
They said no problem.
Then the very next day, they call me back saying "guess what ? we have a Platinum Coupe that just came in, why don't you take it now ?"
I went there the next day and as you guess I couldn't wait 3 month... It was just too beautiful and to much fun ! The killer was when they offered to pay the remaining 4 month lease payments on the XJ6 if I took delivery right away.
I figured I'd put my E-type in for a new paint job while I'd break-in the XKR, so that by the time my wife's lease was up, I'd get the E-type back and perfect with the new paint and she'd get the XKR.
The plan was perfect, and it's probably one of the very few XKR sold below list price.
I am sure you can guess how this wonderfull plan ended...
After driving the XKR for a few weeks, I decided I had to keep it... especailly considering that a fully restored V12 E-type with new paint was just too good as a daily driver...
So I kept the XKR as a daily driver, the E-type became a fun car for week end and rallies and I got my wife another car when her lease ended.
She was very understanding about it but since I was totally addicted to the XKR power... the only choice was an XJR... a 99 black with black interior...
anyway, back to your question, if you want a specific color / body style, it should take about 2 to 3 months for a dealer to get it unless you find it in stock.
