Your advice would be good for most magazines to take these days, with most of their "spy shots" being photoshopped into oblivion.

No doubt. As a PhotoShop® professional I do "touch up" things often enough, but rarely do we like to re-invent the subject matter digitally. Natural object properties always garner the best results.
