As far as I could tell, the Optical link was doing nothing, except waiting for me to add the CD Changer, or Nav system. (I bought neither). I disconnected it from the original stereo, drove around a day, and never noticed it missing. Do you know what data I'm missing out on?


Does the stereo you installed have the fiber optic connection on it? The factory stereo is also the ICE(in car entertainment) module. You will certainly have problems without this module in place. The fiber optic line is a closed loop and with the ICE missing, data from the other modules will be lost. Thats why there isn't an aftermarket CD changer available yet.
