I did check the trunk in my car to see if there were any exposed sharp edges as you describe. I looked all around, including the underside of the trunk lid, and I could find none. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place. Anyway, why don't you stop by a Jag dealer and take a look at the trunks of several X-Types on the lot to see if they also have these exposed sharp edges. If they don't, then demand that the dealer do something to correct the problem.
