Hi Kim,
117K is high miles for that year. I would be looking for something in the low 60K to 80K. Greg is right on things going bad. If the owner has a complete service history of the vehicle that will give you what has been replaced and if the cat was serviced regularly. Coolant every 2 years, oil at 3K an so on, the other thing I can tell you is if you are thinking in the direction of buying an older cat, join the Jag club in your area or get to know a club member and attend a dinner meeting as a guest and talk to the people who own the retro year XJ6 95-97 finally through the club find an independent mecahnic you are comfortable with. I have a 87 XJ6. I picked it up with 75K for $5,000. I love the car and over the time I have owned it it has cost me about $300.00 a month to own and maintain. Now for $300.00 a month I can drive a new honda with a warranty or drive a legend that still turns heads. Just my $.02
Cheers,
Bob
P.S. Jag owners march to a different drummer!
I have always liked jags but never owned any. I've a number of BMW but as I am now looking to get a car while keeping the subrbans, etc. I am looking at a '95 xj6 w/117k mi. it's beautiful. and seems very well maintained. unfortunately I have heard from several people that higher mileage jags are problematic. is this acurate? my BMW's went 200k with only minor work. how hard are they to work on? is it something I even think about?
