Its the part the connects the trunk lid to the body of the car. The old unit is very clumsy, noisy and basically a pain to close. Sometimes it will stick and keep activiting as if your pushing the release button on your key rapidly.
YOu may have the new unit if your not noticing anything. does your trunk close with ease?

Hey, by the way, does your car front seats touch the center console. and what is the date on your driver door. mine is 08/01.
