The long term survey (cars 4 years old) rates Jaguar #2. Very impressive, until you realize that neither the S-Type, nor the X-Type is included. It is pretty disappointing for Jaguar to drop from 2nd to 19th in one year. I can only attribute the decline to the X-Type. Since I have a 3.0 built in 8/01, I can understand how the X-Type's problems brought Jaguar's rating down. I think my car is great, but Jaguar & Ford need to work BIG TIME on quality and customer relations, or the effort made over the last 10 years to improve Jaguar's reliability is going down the drain.

Have you seen the long term survey?
If you look at all of Ford's brands, only Volvo and Lincoln were above average
in Inital Quality. In fact, Volvo improved significantly from 22nd to 5th, above
Honda. Volvo has introduced several new cars this past year and still brought up
their quality rating. So what does Ford do? It places the head of Mazda in
charge of PAG, when Mazda has a ranking of 31 (below Hyundai). Wouldn't you
think the head of Volvo would have been a better choice based on improved
quality? Instead Ford puts the Chief Designer of Volvo as head of Design for
PAG. Maybe improving the looks of the driveshaft, trunk lock and washer nozzles
on the X-Type can correct engineering quality problems. I suspect the new XJ8
will make the BMW 745i appear to have Lexus quality! Jaguar had come a long way
in turning around its quality problems, thanks in large part to Ford. Now, Ford
is turning the clocks backward to the "good old days". Lucas electrical systems
will have to be part of the new XJ8.
