I have been following this web-site for quite a while on a somewhat regular basis, and let me first say that you guys are doing a great job in bringing all x-type lovers/owners (and some haters too :) ) together!!! I have been thinking about getting a 2.5L and after going thru long periods of thinking, I seem to be stuck on one sticking point: How is the quality of jaguar cars in general? I figured you guys might have an idea, despite the x-type being released only recently. Do jaguars have problems in few years after purchase, like many american cars do? Or do they seem to run without problems for atleast few years after warranty is over? I would appreciate much if u can shed some light on it. To be honest with you, because of this reason, i still haven't been able to decide between a mercedes and a jaguar.

A few down the road? Well, that's hard to say. But the X-type is base on the European Mondeo, which has received rave reviews in Europe and a very good car indeed. Jaguar engineer then improve every aspect of the car, making it 30% stonger structurally the the previous leader BMW 3-series. Platform sharing is fact of life today, this is nothing more than the foundation on which the car is being built. Think of the foundation of the house, it tell you the size and dimensions of the house, but it doesn't tell you how well the plumbing, electric, sewer, water etc. will work. For that you have look for in similar Jaguar model such as the S-type and customer satisfaction reports such as JD power. And JD power recently ranked Jaguar #1 in such reports. But to get a truely accurate report of the X-type we will have to wait. The X-type did have a few glitches in their early production phase and seem to have solve most of them in their later production cars.
You and only you can decide which car is best for you. Start by driving both cars, make a list of what's important to you, like, dislike etc. Best of luck in choosing.
