The engine sludge problem is "ONLY" with cars that are not service properly....

I have bought and sold countless ES300's and I remove the valve covers to inspect for the sludge. On cars with service histories, no sludge, on cars with spoty or nill history....sludge.

Mercedes and BMW thought the same thing, then they realized that so many of their cars were leased, and that leasing makes owners less worried about maintaining the vehicle. So to counter this, they switched to factory fill synthetic oil in all their cars and for all their scheduled maintenance. Alot of Lexus are leased, and people who buy pre-owned Lexus will have this problem down the road. Of course, this is way off topic from the original poster's issue.
